About Clockpop 1.6

  1. Use
    1. Overview
    2. Press and Hold the trigger button (the datebook button initially). Clock will appear and stay until you release the button.

If the handheld was off when the datebook button was pressed, it will go back to sleep.

    3. Changes
    4. 1. Squashed(I hope) a bug that could cause a crash on exit in certain applications.

      2. now handles Datebook3/Datebook4 floating events properly

      3. significant code rewrite to clean up possible problems.

      4. cosmetic changes

      5. Clockpop 1.2 is included in the distribution for those who really don’t want all the extras.

    5. Configuration
      1. How:
      2. In Hackmaster, tap configuration box. In X-Master, select Clockpop then tap "Configure" button at bottom of screen.

      3. Options:
        1. Trigger
        2. Tap preferred trigger button.

        3. Delay
        4. Tap "+" or "-" button. Test. Repeat until you are happy.

        5. Day of week format
        6. Normally, the day of the week appears in the title bar using the full English name and in the date at the bottom the same way. Check the "Short (local lang.)" box to have the day appear in both places as a 3 character abbreviation in the local language.

        7. Backlight on waking
        8. Turn on to have the Palm turn on the backlight when triggered from sleep. Not useful for color Palms.

(If you use this in daylight, you may want to tilt the display a little.)

(There have been two reports that this does not work with a Palm V running OS 3.5.2 and some that it does.)

        9. Battery Info
        10. Shows battery voltage and percentage in upper left corner. (The percentage is from the Palm OS and probably corresponds to the part of the Launcher batter that would be filled in.)

        11. Memory Info
        12. Shows free memory in upper right corner.

        13. Appointments
        14. Shows (up to 3) appointments for today with starting times later than now. If there is room, shows untimed appointments as well.

        15. Show Seconds

You can turn off the display of the seconds.

    6. Formats:
      1. Date
      2. Date will follow long date format preference as set in "Formats" panel.

      3. Time

If Format preference panel is set to a 24-hour format, the time display will now show the corresponding 24 format. All 12-hour formats appear as
      in default (colon).

    7. Seconds

The seconds are displayed at the far right after the time, in small font. The count is accurate enough for most purposes but is subject to the whim of any Palm activity that needs to run.

  2. Use
    1. Install
    2. Load file onto device. Open HackMaster (or substitute) and enable Clockpop.
If you already have a version of Clockpop installed, you must disable it before attempting to install a new version.

    3. Trigger
    4. Tap and hold trigger button. (Datebook button by default)

    5. Removal

First disable Clockpop in HackMaster or other hack controller.

  3. Status of requests
  4. Various requests not implemented:

    1. Launch a different clock
    2. Several people suggestion that Clockpop should be used to launch a different clock program. (Big Clock got a lot of votes.) Clockpop is intended to leave the user where he started when the trigger button is released. Launching a clock app won't do this--Clockpop would have to surrender control and the "stop when the trigger button is released" behavior would disappear.

    3. Use a different / prettier / bigger time font
    4. This is as large as the tools I have permit. (Actually, its two fonts--a top and a bottom.)

If anyone owns the rights to a nicer/larger font and wants to contribute it, feel free. The font needs the ten digits, the colon, comma and period and AM & PM indicators.

    5. Use a larger date font
    6. This is the largest built-in font on current Palms. As with the time font, donation of a bigger font would be welcome. However, the date font needs several hundred characters--the time font has 14--and this will make the Clockpop file rather large.

    7. Its a stupid name.

No one actually said this but it is. Too late to find a better one.
