In Holidays you can define public holidays. Not in the way of inserting fixed events for just one year like most other applications are doing that currently. But by giving you the power to define your own private holidays. You can choose between three common ways to set up a holiday.
Holidays has its own database where your events are stored. On starting of the application a list of holidays for the current year is displayed and the next upcoming event is highlighted.
As holidays does not update the datebook automatically, you have to tell it to transfer the events into the datebook. You can do this every time you changed, deleted or created a holiday. The update only happens for the current displayed year. So if you want to insert more years, you have to select the year with the dropdown list in the upper left corner of the screen, and that tap the update button.
You can also remove the events for the selected year from the datebook, by tapping the remove button. To edit one of the events in the list tap the edit button.
You can find all this functions also in the menu. Additional there is the possibility to remove the events for all years from the datebook. For instance if you want to get rid of holidays and all its entries.
Holidays supports DateBk3 and 4 categories and icons as well as ActionNames icons. In the preferences screen you can select the category and icon you want to use. All events will be created with the category and icon selected. Remember that you have to update the datebook to see changes in the category or icon.
To edit on or more events tap on the edit button on the first screen. That will bring you to the edit view.
Here you can see the events like they are defined. To edit one just tap twice on the event you want to edit. You can also tap once and than tap the edit button.
You will now see the Holiday details.
If you do not want to see one holiday in the datebook but don't want to delete the holyday, you can uncheck "Show in datebook". The next time you update the datebook, this event is delted from the datebook (if it existed).
Actually this application was not developed for birthdays. Naturly you could put birthdays in Holidays, but it was not meant for this purpose. There are much better programs out there for birthdays. DateMate is one of them.
You can find the latest version of Holidays on PalmGear.
I spend some time debugging Holidays to make sure it works on all Palm versions (OS version 3.5.0 and above). But still there may be some smaller problems in the application. If you encounter one please feel free to inform me about it. I will try to find the problem and fix it as soon as possible.
Using Holidays is on your own risk. I do not give any guaranties. If you loose all your data or the Palm explodes or burns down, or your PC disappears into a black hole or you have ghost in your house, or you fall over a invisible turtle, don't blame me for it.
Otherwise if you like Holidays so much that you want to donate all your money, your house, or other nice stuff to me, feel free!
